Our "Tiny Mad Idea"—Where It Comes From

Jesus in his new Course clearly teaches that God exists; but a very important concept is that the world is our "tiny mad idea." The phrase comes from Chapter 27,of the Text, The Healing of The Dream, section VIII. There Jesus teaches that compared to the magnitude of Heaven believing this world is real is laughable, mad, insane, and tiny. Further, the hero of our dream is our body, "the central figure in the dreaming world." [T-27.VII.1:1]

Here is the key passage.

Into eternity, where all is one, there crept a tiny, mad idea, at which the Son of God remembered not to laugh. In his forgetting did the thought become a serious idea, possible of both accomplishment and real effects.

The world, therefore, seemed to become a very serious idea because we forgot to laugh it away. A Course in Miracles (ACIM) gives us the means to remember to laugh at it, and realize that our real self has never left the Mind of God. The following passage combines the idea that God did not create the world, but did send the Holy Spirit as a connection to God/Heaven for the dreaming Son.

God's laws do not obtain directly to a world perception rules, for such a world could not have been created by the Mind to which perception has no meaning. Yet are His laws reflected everywhere. Not that the world where this reflection is, is real at all. Only because His Son believes it is, and from His Son's belief He could not let himself be separate entirely. He could not enter His Son's insanity with him, but he could be sure his sanity went there with him. So he could not be lost forever in the madness of his wish. [T-25.III.2:1-5
